Picture Books
I love to read, from very early on I had an enormous collection of picture books (in fact my mum still has them in a box somewhere in the attic). My parents, my grandparents and my teachers always encouraged and nurtured my appetite for books and for this I am forever grateful.
Being an eighties child I had quite the obsession with Roald Dahl, the Albergs and Shirley Hughes, and as soon as I discovered the fantastical rhymes of Dr Seuss and the enchanting 'wild things' of Sendak, I was well and truly hooked.
I guess my style of writing takes something from all that enthused my love of literature, and as adults I don’t think we ever truly lose that magical feeling and sense of nostalgia that a great picture book can evoke. I hope to create a collection of inspirational picture books that children and grown ups alike will fall in love with.
One tank, two turtles
and thoughts of bigger things,
but is anything really possible
if turtles don't have wings?
A rhythmic and alliterative tale full of ups and downs, loops and lines, of hope, kindness and a willingness to try and keep on trying.
Finished amidst a global pandemic when the world stood still and hope seemed such a long, long way away. Sometimes it is those we don't know and those we don't always notice that step up and help us the most.
Loops and Long Long lines is mainly intended for primary school aged children, however the themes explored within the book make it suitable for older children and adults alike. An ideal choice for reading aloud.
. . . and here is a sneaky glimpse of my next endeavour. . .
Once
Upon A Mountain. . .
"There was a boy who fell in love with night and so he would lay in the snow and gaze up at the ancient maze of light that danced so well in the dark."
" I am afraid of not being believed in, like dragons and fairies and elves. Forgotten and trapped forever in books at the back of dark dusty shelves."
"It whizzed
it whoosed
it fizzed
and fizzled
then fell
right out
of the sky."
