Rotherham Hospital Murals

The Children's Ward and Assessment Unit
This was the largest out of all the hospital projects, covering both the ward and the assessment unit, with a number of cubicles, bays, treatment rooms, the HDU, playrooms and entrances to paint. As before, many of the themes were suggested by the staff which I then used to create my own designs and characters, borrowing some ideas and inspiration from my other projects.
Here is a selection of my favourites from the bottom of the ocean to the edges of space, from the magical to the downright mischievous.
I hope they provide a little bit of comfort and joy to all who meet them, they certainly helped me. I lost my amazing Grandma half way through this project (May 2022), my biggest fan and a gem of a human. I think she would have adored them all.
The Children's UECC
I was given a wonderful opportunity to help transform some of the areas within the Children's emergency unit. This included the waiting area, the internal corridors and 5 rooms. I worked with staff to determine themes for each area. I was then given autonomy to create my own designs and characters.
The problem was that I didn't really want to stop painting.
The Special Care Baby Unit
It was a privelege to paint murals in the SCBU, my first of many projects at The Rotherham Hospital. What an absolute pleasure it was to design and create such a comforting and captivating environment for the staff and patients. I have come away with some wonderful memories and friends, in fact I often revisit both the creatures I met and created.
Children's Outpatient Department
I was asked to brighten up one of the rooms in the children's outpatient clinic, with a specific request for a sleeping lion above the bed. I couldn’t leave out the giraffes or parrot either, they tend to appear wherever I go, I think perhaps they roam the corridors when no one is around.
